After a soggy and slow start to the trip, we arrived in North Platte about 9:30 (Central time) last night. Leaving home around 3:30, we were nearly stationary in stop and go traffic as a heavy thunderstorm traveled along the I-25 corridor in downtown Denver, flooding underpasses and generally snarling traffic just in time for rush hour. The heavy rain seemed to follow us nearly all the way to the Nebraska/Colorado state line.

This morning we’re parked at Holiday RV Park, just off of I-80 in North Platte, Nebraska. After making a “late arrival” reservation a week or so ago, we were surprised when the phone rang at about 9PM asking if we were still going to join them for the evening. Expecting a late check-in site assignment, instead they responded that they would wait for us. About 30 minutes later we were comfortably parked in site #65. You can tell this is an old park because of the number and size of the old, mature trees that provide shade to nearly all sites. But, that’s where the “oldness” ends, this park is in tip-top shape, from the convenient site connections (electric, water/sewer and 50 channels of cable TV), to the well maintained gravel roads, the beautiful grassy tent area and the immaculately clean pool, laundry room and showers.

Our site is nearly at the back of the park, as far from the din of I-80 traffic as possible. Overnight traffic isn’t overly noisy, but quite evident with windows open. With a bit higher temps and the A/C providing a nice background, the traffic noise would disappear. This park is convenient to several restaurants all within a few blocks and a Walmart Supercenter just a mile or so to the north. The park provides a good free WiFi connection, or the Verizon broadband signal is full strength. When returning to North Platte, we’d stay here again.
