My Shopping List

I’ve been asked what I carry in the RV to make standard hookups more convenient and less time consuming.  Along with the items below, I also carry a supply of tools and extra parts.

I always have pex plumbing parts, a cutter and some SharkBite-type end caps, just in case of an internal leak.  I also have water hose washers which tend to get lost or start leaking at the most inconvenient times.

I also carry extra lengths of fresh water hose and sewer hose, just for those oddly placed water hydrants or dump ports. And I have an extra 25 feet of electrical cord, again – for those oddly placed pedestals or when we are backward in a site.

Required Items:

Wheel chalks are an important safety item, especially if your site has any type of slope and you want to disconnect from the tow vehicle.  We’ve always recommended these chalks for easy and quick installation.  They still cover the safety factor, but now with auto leveling, they frequently are very loose once the system has lifted weight off the axles.  We don’t currently have a better recommendation.

Ultra-Fab Products 21-001070 Ultra Deluxe Chock and Lock, (Pack of 2)

Fresh water connections, filters & fill hoses:
90% of the time you’ll only need this 10 foot hose.  However, for longer runs, it’s always nice to have another 25 footer or more!  And, the 5/8 size will give you maximum available water pressure.

Camco 10ft Premium Drinking Water Hose – Lead and BPA Free, Anti-Kink Design, 20% Thicker Than Standard Hoses 5/8″Inside Diameter (22823)

Camco (22783) 25ft TastePURE Drinking Water Hose – Lead and BPA Free, Reinforced for Maximum Kink Resistance 5/8″Inner Diameter

A new water filter every year:
Camco 40043 TastePure RV/Marine Water Filter with Flexible Hose Protector | Protects Against Bacteria | Reduces Bad Taste, Odors, Chlorine and Sediment in Drinking Water

I prefer the Hi-Flow over the normal regulators:
Valterra RV Hi-Flow Water Regulator, Lead-Free Brass Hi-Flow Water Regulator for Camper, Trailer, RV Plumbing System, 50-55 psi

Waste Water, Black and Gray and Galley

For holding tank treatments, we only use septic safe products from Unique Camping/Marine, a Colorado based company. You’ll need “Digest It” either liquid or pods for your black tank.  We also use their Toilet Cleaner to keep harsh chemicals out of the tank. And, in warmer weather, the galley tank sometimes needs an odor treatment.  You can either use their liquid “Digest It” or their drop in pod Tank Odor Eliminator.  (liquid is easier to pour down the kitchen sink, but the pods break-down pretty quickly too)

My preferred hose because it has a one-piece 90 degree adapter (the others break), and the hose collapses well (and stays collapsed).
Valterra 20-Foot Dominator RV Sewer Hose Kit, Universal Sewer Hose for RV Camper, Includes 2 Attachable 10-Foot Hoses with Rotating Fittings, 90 Degree Clearview Sewer Adapter, and 4 Drip Caps

You must be able to see when waste tanks are empty, and when a black tank flush is complete.
Valterra 1218.103 T1026-1 45° Clearview Adapter with 3″ Bay Lug

A flush hose. I just use an old green garden hose.  Best if different color than fresh water hose, probably want at least 15′.
AmazonBasics Garden Tool Collection – Water Hose with Brass Coupling 25ft, 5/8”, 300psi

Depending on the sites you choose:

For 50 Amp rigs, when you arrive at a 30 Amp site:
Camco RV Dogbone Electrical Adapter With Easy PowerGrip Handle, 30 Amp Male to 50 Amp Female, 18″ (3750W/125V) (55185)

If you have cable TV available:
25′ Feet, White RG6 Coaxial Cable (Coax Cable) – Made in The USA – with Connectors, F81 / RF, Digital Coax – AV, CableTV, Antenna, and Satellite, CL2 Rated, 25 Foot

Eventually nice to have:

I use a “Y” connector at the hydrant, so I don’t have to disconnect the fresh hose when I use the flush hose.
2wayz All Metal Body Garden Hose Splitter. Newly Upgraded (2017): 100% Secured, Bolted & Threaded. Easy Grip, Smooth Long Handles y Valve

And, I prefer to have an on/off valve so that I can release any air from the fresh water line before attaching to the RV.
2wayz Garden Hose Shut Off Valve. Stop Running Around Your Lawn! No Leak Experience – Tight Seal Ball Valve Hose Fitting. Quick Connect Shutoff Coupling with Smooth Long Knobs (4cm!).

These help take the strain off of the fresh water connection and make hookups faster and easier.
Camco (22505) 90 Degree Hose Elbow- Eliminates Stress and Strain On RV Water Intake Hose Fittings, Solid Brass

These may be more than “nice-to-have” depending on how level your first camping sites are.  I’ve always used this closed design block, assuming it was more heavy duty.  But, the open design would be nice because it wouldn’t hold water.
Camco 44510 Heavy Duty Leveling Blocks, Ideal For Leveling Single and Dual Wheels, Hydraulic Jacks, Tongue Jacks and Tandem Axles (10 pack, Frustration-Free Packaging)

Camco FasTen 2×2 RV Leveling Block For Single Tires, Interlocking Design Allows Stacking To Desired Height, Includes Secure T-Handle Carrying System, Yellow (Pack of 10)

We also carry two of these jack pads.  Because we’re really picky about being level, these give us that option of adding a “half block”.
Camping World: Oversized Jack Pads, Set of 2

To support the long run sewer hose:
Camco 30 Foot 43061 Sidewinder Plastic Sewer Hose Support-30′

For winterization or de-winterization:

Camco Water Heater Tank Rinser-Cleanses and Removes Sediment that Collects at the Bottom of RV Water Heater, Extends Life of RV Water Heater (11691)
